DocXplains was created by Dr… after working as a general practitioner for a few years. A big part of general practice is health education. Dr… soon discovered that this was one of his favourite parts of working with patients, and to him it felt like one of the most important parts. It’s a big thing for people to change their lives in some way: to adjust their lifestyle, their food or their activity, to try new therapies or take medications, if they don’t really understand how these things might help. ST

Medical training is full of visuals. Drawings of anatomy, diagrams of blood vessels, photographs of cells and bugs. It follows that health education should be filled with visuals too, and so Dr… would draw his explanations out for his patients. How asthma affects the airways, how blood pressure causes damage to the body, how depression affects feelings.

People responded really well to the drawings. They felt happy that they now understood their illness, and would often feel more motivated and in control. Many people would ask to take the drawings away with them, and some said that now that they understood what their regular medications were for, they would actually start taking them daily for the first time!

These were the experiences that made Dr… decide that we all needed something new. He enjoyed doing this work with his patients one by one, but maybe there was a way to empower everyone this way? And so to recreate that experience for everyone, DocXplains was made.

At DocXplains you’ll watch easy-to-follow line-drawings unfold while hearing a straightforward and jargon-free explanation. Created from start to finish by Dr… and his team, with regular input from non-doctors and patients alike, the short,  colourful videos explain what normally goes on in our bodies, how it can go wrong, why it can go wrong, and what we can do about it.

There are no pages of text, no numbers, and no no no jargon! No dumbing down, and no over-complicating either. The videos are fun and easy to watch again and again, to come back to, and to share.

At DocXplains we firmly believe that health and illness can be explained in a way that is understandable to everyone. With that understanding we can be empowered to retake ownership of our own health journeys.
